So I got up at 5:30am to start my new school year. Probably could have slept another hour but wanted to make sure I got to school on time for my 8am class.
Last week my tour guide told us that it could take 30 minutes to find a parking spot. I guess that wasn’t meant for those with early classes. The parking lot was empty and I even had time to back my car into a space.
One of the reasons I wanted to arrive early is so that I could rent a gym locker for the term. I guess they fill up fast. As a full time student I have access to the gym, rock climbing room, and all the classes for FREE! What a bonus! And, yes, I got a full locker! Yay!
I got to my first class, which is English 1010, pretty early and waited in the hall with the rest of the class. The door was shut and the lights were turned off so we all assumed it was locked. At about 1 minute to 8am I went over to the door and it was open. lol! None of us had even tried to see if we could get in. Our teacher arrived shortly after.
English is looking like it may be a little tough for me but Bryan assures me that I can do it. I felt a little discouraged after I left but feel a ton better now after his pep talk. I just need to make the effort to learn the things that I didn't take the time to learn when I was in high school, over 30 years ago!!

After my English class I ran back home, which takes me about 25-30 minutes, and started 2 loaves of Sourdough Bread. Bryan and I LOVE this bread and it's one of the only breads we can have right now. This bread takes around 12-14 hours to make from start to finish. I timed it just right so I can put them in the oven about an hour before bed tonight.
Here's a pic of the bread I made over the weekend. I almost have it mastered. I've made 6 loaves so far! You can find the recipe & instructions on Charity Lighten's website HERE.
On Wednesdays I work as a volunteer at the Missionary Training Center in Provo, Utah. This means I had to change into a dress and pack my school clothes in my backpack to change into after my shift. (It's been a long and crazy day for sure!)
When I decided to start school I wanted to make sure that I could still work at the MTC every Wednesday. That is why I have a class so late on Mondays & Wednesdays. I really had to work around my schedule.
My son is a missionary for our church right now in João Pessoa, Brazil, so it has been nice being able to work with missionaries getting ready to serve all over the world. It helps me feel like I can still get a little bit of his world right now.
This is my drama room. We all sit around the classroom in chairs by the wall. The middle will be our stage. For our first assignment we have to memorize and perform a 60 second monologue. I've picked mine and it's from The Diary of Anne Frank. I just hope I can remember all of it!! It's due on Monday!
Tomorrow I have THREE really hard classes! Biology, Portuguese, & Intro to American Indian Studies. Wish me luck.
I'm going to share all the good, bad, ugly, and tough times in this journey. This is partly going to be my journal to look back on. Hopefully I can laugh about how I almost cried on my first day of school!
Feel free to leave me a comment!
